Brimonidine Tartrate API is a β-blocker bulk drug.Its chemical name is( 4-( 2-( Tert- butylamino- ethoxy) phenyl) hydrogen ester, its chemical formula is C20H28BrNO4, its relative molecular weight is437.35, CAS number is 70359-46-5. Its liquid form is white or light unheroic crystalline powder, odorless. nearly undoable in water, answerable in ethanol and methanol. It is used to treat open- angle glaucoma, optical hypertension, and optical hypertension after ray surgery of the anterior member.Here is a history of its discovery :
In the early 1980s, Alcon, an American biotechnology company, began work on alpha2- adrenergic receptor agonists. They hope it can reduce pressure in the eye by cranking the alpha2- receptor and give a new type of medicine to treat glaucoma.
In a series of compounds screening, Alcon researchers identified a compound called UK14304 that effectively activates the alpha2-receptor to treat glaucoma.
They also carried out farther chemical analysis and optimization of the emulsion, and successfully synthesized a more stable and picky emulsion, Brimonidine Tartrate.
In 1996, it was approved by the United States FDA as an effective treatment for glaucoma. Since also, it has gradationally gained fashionability and been extensively used in clinical practice.
